Pick the job, see the sheets, then print.
Lazy Print sends documents and photos to driverless IPP printers from Windows, Mac, iPhone and iPad. It shows the sheets as they will come out before anything is sent, walks you through two-sided printing on a printer that only prints one side, and tells you what is wrong when a printer does not show up.
Not released yet. There is nothing to download. So far Lazy Print has only been run by its automated tests and by CI, not on a real printer, a real iPhone or a real Mac.
Start from what you want to print
You pick a task and drop files in. The task sets up the options, and you can change them before you print.
- Print a document, shrunk to fit the paper, two-sided when the printer can.
- Two-sided, with a guided way for printers that only print one side.
- Booklet, with the pages in the order that folds into one.
- Handouts, two pages to a sheet with borders.
- Photo prints, 4 × 6 by default.
- Photo sheet, four photos to a sheet with cut marks.
- Test page, printed at once on the printer you chose.
- Scan and print, which hands the job to Lazy Scan. It needs a version of Lazy Scan that supports this, and stays greyed out until one is installed.
Files can be PDFs and pictures. Copies, color or gray, print quality, paper size and page range are set in the options beside the preview.
Printers, and what to do when one is missing
Driverless IPP
Network printers are found over DNS-SD. A printer that does not announce itself can be added by its address. On Windows and Mac the printers the system already has set up are listed too, as one row each.
Two-sided by hand
When a printer has no duplex unit, a card walks through printing the fronts, reloading the paper and printing the backs. A one-sheet check first lets you test which way the paper goes back in.
The troubleshooter
"Why isn't my printer listed?" reads what the system and the network report and says what is wrong in plain words. A printer reports problems such as out of paper or a jam in its own row.
A demo printer
A printer that is always in the list and writes each sheet as a picture to a folder, so every task can be tried without any hardware.
Send files from your iPhone
Pair an iPhone with the computer by scanning a QR code shown in the app. After that the phone can send files to the computer. They wait in a bar at the top of its window, and nothing prints until you add them to a job or start a new one.
The link stays on your local network. It uses TLS, and the phone pins the computer's certificate from the pairing code. The computer listens only while a phone is paired or a pairing code is on screen, and only on private networks, or on others you have approved in the app.
Platforms
Windows
Windows 10 version 2004 or later. A .NET 10 and WPF app that prints through the print spooler and straight to IPP printers.
Mac
macOS 14 or later, on Apple silicon. Prints to the queues macOS has set up, and straight to IPP printers.
iPhone and iPad
iOS 18 or later. Prints to network printers, or to an AirPrint printer you pick, and sends files to your computer.
Lazy Print is the sister app of Lazy Scan and works with it in the Scan and print task, once both are released with that support.
